Chelsea FC legend and former manager Roberto Di Matteo has been appointed as the new manager for Bundesliga side Schalke 04 after Jens Keller was sacked. Di Matteo has been out of football since being sacked in 2013 by Chelsea but has reportedly been receiving a fair amount of interest from clubs in Europe and this move confirms it.

Roberto Di Matteo was already a Chelsea FC legend for his exploits as a player before he took over for Andres Villas Boas in the midst of the 2012-13 season. Di Matteo then lead the Blues to a historic double as they won the FA Cup and then went on to win the first ever Champions League in Chelsea history. Unfortunately the good vibes did not last very long as he was sacked the following season after an embarrassing loss to Juventus in the Champions League.

Chelsea FC is no stranger to facing its former managers or players and Roberto Di Matteo will certainly get a standing ovation from the traveling fans when the two sides face off in November. Even if he was not the best manager in Chelsea FC history, Roberto Di Matteo delivered the holy grail of European football to Stamford Bridge and for that alone his name should be sung for decades to come at the home ground.
