David Luiz, now of Paris Saint-Germain, has spoken out about his transfer from the West London outfit to the French Champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Per the Daily Mail, Luiz stated that Chelsea offered him a new 4 year contract to stay at Stamford Bridge, but that Luiz turned it down in favor of first team football at PSG.

"Chelsea offered me a new contract to stay but it was my choice to come here. I was happy with the plan PSG offered to me and I think it was exactly the right moment to move. “-David Luiz to the Daily Mail"

The French free-spending giants splashed out a lucrative £50M on the defender, who was 3rd choice at best in central defense and defensive midfielder for Chelsea last season. The report that Luiz rejected a deal from Chelsea seems to run counter to claims that the club deemed him surplus to their needs.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was asked about the sale in the wake of the transfer this summer and stated that Luiz was obviously not a first choice for Chelsea anymore, and that the sale made sense.

"‘Last season he was not regular first-choice for us. David did important things here, was always a good professional and we will miss him as a good guy when he was with us. But from a football point of view we believe our squad is stronger this season than it was.- Jose Mourinho"

Clearly the Blues have made the most of the £50M transfer fee,  putting most of it towards paying £62M combined for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa. The pair of Spaniards have meshed well together at Stamford Bridge, with Diego Costa banging in 9 goals through his first 7 matches and Fabregas providing 7 assists through 7 matches.

The Blues sit on top of the Premier League table heading into the international break, 5 points clear of 2nd place Manchester City.
