The Chelsea FC Ladies are one win away from the FA Women’s Super League Title as they face Manchester City Ladies on Sunday afternoon at 2PM. The two clubs have met three times this season with Chelsea Ladies winning two out of the three matchups and they have the advantage of playing the decisive match at home.
Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes on facing Manchester City and the slim lead they have in the league:
"“Both clubs are trying to become the top team in England and I expect Manchester City to give us a tough game as always, but if we want to be champions we have to go up there and show them what we’re all about. In the Continental Cup we’d played at Arsenal on the Thursday, where we won at Borehamwood for the first time in our history, which took a lot out of our legs. We then had to play City away three days later, so it was all too much. I know the players were very upset with their performance in the Continental Cup against City and that will be very much in the front of their minds, they don’t want a repeat of that.’As it stands, only three points separate the top three teams. We currently lead Birmingham by two points, with Liverpool a further one behind. The message ahead of the game, however, is simple: a victory sees us crowned champions, regardless of what happens elsewhere. I’ve never cared about what any other team has been doing during the season and I don’t care this weekend. It’s in our hands, and any manager will tell you that’s the best position to be in. I don’t want any team to do us a favour, we’ll do ourselves one.It would give me great pride [winning the league]. It will be special for so many people who have worked hard all season long. My backroom staff have been tremendous so I’d love to win it for them, and also for the players themselves. It would be a monumental achievement if we can do it.”Source: ChelseaFC.com"
The Chelsea Ladies are in a position that all the teams associated with the Blues are familiar with as they are just three points from winning a league title. They face a tough task in Manchester City but the Chelsea Ladies have proven all season long that they are deserving of the top spot in the FA Women’s Super League.
