Neil Warnock Thinks Chelsea FC Players Influenced Referee

After any heated match when a player or two is sent off, there is usually one manager unhappy with the result. Rather than focus on why his side lost, Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock decided to make his feelings known about Chelsea FC players supposedly influencing the referee to send off Damien Delaney late in the second half. This was after Cesar Azpilicueta was given a straight red for a rash challenge that deserved the sending off.

The second challenge for Delaney was for a pull back on Loic Remy as he was breaking toward the Crystal Palace goal. It did appear that Loic Remy made the most of the contact from Delaney but it was very clear that he did indeed try to impede the Chelsea man’s progress. The yellow card was more for the intent and the impact on the play rather than the foul itself.

"“The one thing I’ve not missed when I’ve been doing media work is refereeing performances like that. I thought he was influenced today. He had four Chelsea players around him. I was just about to put Adrian Mariappa on. For the second booking Remy dives and then you have four Chelsea players surrounding the referee. I thought those days were gone – banned. I think the four lads around him made his mind up for him. I don’t think the referee has a defense. I don’t really want to talk about him. All things being even, I thought we would have got a result.”Source: BBC"

Players surrounding the referee to try and get a booking for the opponent is nothing new. This has been happening in world football for years and there is no reason for Neil Warnock to try and point fingers when his players do the same. Neil Warnock is a good manager and he has done well with Crystal Palace but he should focus more on the actions of his own players than Chelsea’s.
