Chelsea FC’s captain, leader, and legend John Terry has vowed that he wants to add to his impressive games total as captain and that he wants to retire as such. John Terry played his 500th game as captain of Chelsea FC this weekend against Crystal Palace and what a 500 games they have been.

In that span of matches as captain, John Terry has won nearly every club trophy available in European and top flight English football. Unfortunately he was not on the field for the club’s European triumphs but he certainly played a very large role in the build up to them.

"“There will be one day when it’s time to pass it on to someone else, and it’s time for me to hang up the boots. But I’m feeling great, and I’m playing well in a very good side, and we’re winning. The football club has come a long way. As I’ve said before, the injection of money from the owner has been great. But the desire for myself to stay in and among the side, and continue to play well for so long, is something that pleases me most.I’d like to thank the likes of Marcel Desailly and Denis Wise, who first and foremost gave me the opportunity to be captain of this club, and help me through and learn from the very best. I remember when I first got it (the armband) Marcel was captain, and he called a meeting with the management, (Gianfranco) Zola, Denis Wise, Graeme Le Saux. And they felt it was time, while they were still there, that they give me the armband, and see me through. And I’ll never forget that – that’s why I thank those guys for the experience and the learning that I got from them. Because without them I couldn’t have done it.I think if you look at (Ron) ‘Chopper’ Harris – he was 324 (games as captain) or something, and that was kind of there (as a record) for a long time.To surpass that, and be as successful as I’ve been at the club…when you look at the records, and you step back and you see the stats and the achievements you’ve done, it is incredible. So I’m incredibly pleased with that. But I’m still looking to add to them.”Source: Get West London"

When John Terry first took the captaincy in 2001, Chelsea FC was a competitive club but were not the table toppers and world beaters they are today. The Blues and John Terry have both grown to reach tremendous heights together and the Chelsea legend shows no signs of slowing down.
