As you may have already heard, Chelsea FC chief executive officer Ron Gourlay announced his departure from the club after five years in charge. Gourlay was also chief operating officer at the club before becoming CEO and had been at Stamford Bridge since 2004. He was not the most popular man with the fans because of his supposed obsession with overseas fans rather than regular match goers but he did help oversee a dramatic transformation of the club since Roman Abramovich’s takeover.

Other noveau rich clubs have proven that you can not just throw a bunch of money at a club and it will become successful so Ron Gourlay deserves some credit for his part in all this. Whatever his reasons may be for departing, Chelsea FC fans seemed split in their opinions of the man and here are some of their reactions:
When Ron Gourlay joined Chelsea in 2004, annual revenues were under £150m. Chelsea earned over £300m last season. Job well done. #cfc
