Jose Mourinho Furious Over Diego Costa Hospital Stay
By Mike Hemmins
So Diego Costa may not be sitting out games due to his suspect hamstring, and instead may have been forced out following a mystery stomach bug that according to Matt Law in The Telegraph, required time in hospital following the striker’s return back to the UK from international duty with Spain.
Chelsea FC haven’t released any specific information as to what the illness is that Costa has been suffering from, but it is believed to have been somewhat severe.

It is also being reported that
rather than being hampered by a hamstring problem, Costa returned to Cobham nursing a groin strain
, which when you combine that with the stomach bug, it’s easy to understand why Jose Mourinho has been so vexed with Vicente del Bosque and the Spanish national team’s handling of his first choice centre-forward.
Given Jose Mourinho’s propensity for the ‘occasional’ mind game here and there, it would have been easy to forgive anyone thinking that in sitting Costa out for the Crystal Palace and Maribor matches, he’d be fresh and ready to take on Manchester United, Sunday afternoon.
Yet I am lead to believe that Costa didn’t train yesterday, which having missed the previous two matches, he should have done, making an appearance at Old Trafford actually rather unlikely.
The situation with Costa is likely to put more strain on the Chelsea medical staff to try to find a way to get Loic Remy fit and able to take Costa’s place.
The French international was due to have a scan on his own groin injury that caused him to be substituted in the Maribor match.
"“We will see with the scan,” Rémy said. “I really hope it is not too bad. Fortunately, I stopped playing because I felt something. My groin. It was before I scored, it was a bit stiff – even my run did not feel very comfortable. if I’m not feeling very good it’s better to leave for another player who is 100 per cent.“Yes it’s frustrating, because I had a chance to play because Costa is injured, but I am not afraid. I don’t think it is really bad. We will check and I really hope to play again this weekend.”"
If Remy can’t be risked, it will be down to veteran Didier Drogba to lead the line. The Ivorian is still fighting his own injury battle and is also in a fight against a lack of match time, but says he will do all he can if called upon:
"“I need time because before signing here I didn’t play for two or three months then I had this injury that kept me out for a while, so I need more games. But I’m training hard to be back to full fitness. It’s up to the manager to decide who’s going to start against Manchester United, but if you were a player how would feel if they say you can play at Old Trafford? You’ll be happy.”"
If all else fails, we may have a re-run of the Schurrle experiment that Mourinho tried in the same match last season. It didn’t work then, but to be fair there was no Cesc to assist.
Whatever it was that caused the Diego Costa hospital stay, it certainly hasn’t helped in Chelsea/Spain relations…
