Thibaut Courtois Not Scared To Criticize Poor Teammates

Chelsea FC’s Thibaut Courtois revealed that he is not scared to criticize his much more experienced club and international teammates if they play poorly. Courtois reportedly criticized his international teammates ahead of their Euro 2016 matchup with Wales and told them they would lose if they defended like they did against Iceland.

Belgium ended up drawing 0-0 with the Welsh but this shows that Courtois is much wiser than his age suggests. He has tremendous experience for a goalkeeper that is under 25 years old and he is in the unique position of starting for his national team as well as a big club at that age. Most big clubs rely on more experienced goalkeepers but because of the special qualities that Thibaut Courtois has shown, he has been entrusted with that responsibility by both Atletico Madrid and of course Chelsea FC as well.

Thibaut Courtois on not being scared to criticize his teammates if they play poorly:

"“Yes, maybe that happens. But there are also other guys who can say something. Just to name some names, [John] Terry or [Didier] Drogba — they have experience and leadership. I just said it [the criticism of Belgium’s play against Iceland] because I thought that we should be better.”Source: ESPN FC"

Courtois is surrounded by leaders and veteran players at both the international and club levels. For the Belgium Red Devils he has the likes of Vincent Kompany to learn from and at Chelsea he of course has Didier Drogba, John Terry, and Petr Cech. He is learning from some of the best players in the game and players who also happen to be legends of Stamford Bridge. It takes a special kind of person and player to be able to speak up in a dressing room full of big time players like Drogba and Terry but Courtois has proven time and time again that he is up to the task.
