In games like these, if the superior team jumps out to an early lead it can be downhill from there for the opposition. John Terry almost put Chelsea ahead with just five minutes gone, but a terrific save from Ben Foster denied the club legend a goal.
It would not take much longer though for Chelsea to get the opening goal. Who else but Diego Costa opened the scoring in the 11th minute. After receiving a cross from Oscar, Costa chested the ball down and blasted a shot from close range. Foster was helpless as he could only watch the ball go into the back of the net.
In the 15th minute Chelsea almost doubled their lead. Oscar had space at the top of the box and tried a shot with the outside of his foot. Foster made another great save, and denied Costa on the rebound.
Chelsea FC would add to their lead in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a defensive mistake by West Brom. Eden Hazard came free from a short corner, and was able to finish from point-blank range. With the lead at 2-0, Chelsea already looked good value to run out winners, even with 65 minutes yet to be played.

Nemanja Matic almost made the game 3-0 before some fans had even returned to their seats for the second half. The midfielder found himself unmarked on the far post, but couldn’t keep his volley attempt down .
The second half was played almost entirely in the West Brom, with the Baggies setting up in a defensive shape in order not make the damage any worse than it already was. Chelsea had a few more half chances, that were dealt with by Foster, and couldn’t convert on any of their corner chances.
Blues fans will be happy that their team avoided any type of surprise setback against a beatable opponent. The club can now look forward to their crucial UEFA Champions League match this Tuesday against Schalke.
