Premier League Picks – Matchday 13

Chelsea FC fans are stress free at the moment as the Blues are plowing through everyone in their path. But throughout Europe this has been dramatic and memorable week to say the least. Earlier this year I came across an ode to Lionel Messi, and having seen him break 2 more scoring records this week, it is a fitting tribute to his brilliance.

His fellow compatriot Sergio Aguero single handedly kept Manchester City’s Champions League hopes alive setting up a mouthwatering final matchday when Barcelona will host PSG with first place on the line and the Citizens travel to Rome with both teams will looking to triumph.

West Brom vs Arsenal

Speaking of triumph, Arsenal finally beat a good team at home. Winning against Dortmund on Wednesday is a good omen for them heading to the Hawthorns this weekend where they will play a West Brom team that hasn’t scored in their last two matches. The Gunners have only beaten bottom feeders thus far in their Premier League campaign. The Baggies currently sit in 13th place so this should be right up their alley.

Pick: Arsenal (-125)

Burnley vs Aston Villa

I don’t see how either team will allow the other to score in this matchup. If both teams revert to type this may even wind up nil-nil. Burnley will feel great having won back to back games, but a visit from Paul Lambert and Roy Keane could wipe a smile off anyone’s face.

Pick: under 1.5 goals (+200)

Southampton vs. Manchester City

RANDOM FOOTY FACT: Lionel Messi holds the Guinness World Record for the most goals scored in a single calendar year (91)

League leaders Chelsea will have already played when the 2nd and 3rd place teams clash on Sunday. Regardless of what the Blues do, Man City will know the importance of this game and desperately want all 3 points.Southampton have yet to face a top 5 team from last year. This will be a big step up in class for them. Furthermore there are not many times when you will get value like this on Man City and it’s worth taking advantage. Cinderella’s clock is about to strike midnight.

Pick: Man City (+110)

Tottenham vs. Everton

The Spurs have been poor at home this season in the Premier League. The Toffees will come in knowing they can get a result. Both Martinez and Pochettino urge their teams to play an attractive brand of football, but neither have delivered consistent performances week in week out. When two similar sides square off they often negate each other’s game plans resulting in a stalemate.

Pick: Draw (+230)

Last week’s record: 2-2 (+0.5 units)

Overall: 3-5 (-1.5 units)
