It has been revealed this week that Chelsea FC’s World Cup winner, Andre Schurrle, has been battling with illness recently. The Germany midfielder has seen limited action in past weeks for reasons that were unknown to Chelsea fans. Some assumed that he we simply being dropped because of a drop in form but now we all know better.

We had covered this story weeks prior to Mourinho revealing the illness when Germany national team manager Joachim Low dropped the winger from his squad for the international break. Low revealed at the time that it was because of an illness and not because Schurrle was playing poorly for the Blues.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Andre Schurrle is recovering and almost fit to see more playing time:
"“He was very ill. He was back here and he took a good two weeks, because it was a bad one. I think that affected him a lot from a physical point of view. When he started training again he had a fragile body and, as a consequence, a fragile brain. But now he’s coming step by step. He was on the bench against West Brom, and played 15 minutes in the last match”Source: London 24"
We still do not know the extent of his illness or what he was actually suffering from but it was clearly something very serious. It is fantastic news to hear that Schurrle is back to being fully fit as he will be crucial for Chelsea FC during this busy Christmas season. Welcome back Andre, we certainly missed you!
