Premier League Picks – Matchday 16

The Premier League race is on. Jose Mourinho has every right to believe that Chelsea are “Sitting Pretty” atop the table, but for how long? Man City should steamroll through their easy December schedule, even without the services of Kun Aguero, and don’t look now- Manchester United are a real threat.

Liverpool’s nightmare season resumes with a visit to the Theatre of Dreams. Last season Liverpool humiliated Manchester United at Old Trafford. The away fans even unveiled a banner reading “David Moyes is a football genius”. From a punter’s standpoint I love United in this spot for every reason. Liverpool just crashed out of the Champions League. They have not found an attacking identity and their defenders all look timid as if playing scared. They are in shambles and go to play a United side who are trying to attempt what Liverpool did last year; make a run at the title with no European fixtures on their plate. This is English football’s most heated top flight rivalry and United want not only retribution for last season’s debacle, they wish to drive another nail in Liverpool’s coffin.

Pick: Manchester United (-120)

Sunderland vs West Ham

It’s like I fell asleep for 3 months, woke up and discovered that the Hammers are good, really good. And they have more than 1 way of beating you. If the dynamic pace and flair of Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho don’t get you, then Big Sam may just decide to lob crosses in for Andy Carroll, that’s right Andy Carroll. He’s back and you may want to start relearning all those funny songs before he spends 6 months on the trainer’s table…again. Here’s my personal favorite.

Pick: West Ham Draw No Bet (-110)

Burnley vs. Southampton

Random Footy Fact:                  Sergio Aguero is the all time EPL leader in goals scored per minute

Southampton may come away from Turf Moor with all 3 points but I’m looking at the side in this one. Only twice have Burnley conceded more than 1 goal at home twice this season (Everton, Chelsea). Add to that the fact that they have not scored more than 1 goal themselves in any home game during this campaign. The under looks to be the play.

Pick: Under 2.5 goals (-125)

Last Matchday’s record: 4-0 (+7.4 units)

Overall: 11-8 (+7 units)
