Marie Hourihan is a former England U23 international and has only been with the club since July of 2013. Lindahl is a far more experienced goalkeeper and will give Emma Hayes more options between the sticks. She has been a regular first teamer at the club level since 2000 made her debut for Sweden in 2002. She has since amassed over 100 caps for her country and lead them to a third placed finish in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Lindahl spoke to ChelseaFC.com and shared her excitement about joining the club:

"“I am excited to join Chelsea Ladies and look forward to helping the club meet their targets of winning titles. Chelsea offers a superb setting in which I can further develop as a player and perform at the highest level. My aim is to let my actions speak for themselves and be part of the team as we progress to an even higher level.”"

Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes was very complimentary of her new keeper. She described her as world-class and said, “Hedvig is world class and will bring another dimension to our play. Her World Cup and European Championship experience will be invaluable and will bring the knowledge and expertise we need to compete on all fronts. We now have two fantastic goalkeepers which is important for the squad with so many games to play. I’m very excited to work with her during the coming season”.

Hedvig Lindahl is an exciting new signing for Chelsea Ladies and she represents the ever-rising profile of the club. To sign such a high-profile and experienced player is an excellent indicator of the health of the club and she will hopefully help the club to achieve even greater levels of success.
