The Blues lost the only match that he did not play in because of suspension and did not look the same side without him in the lineup. He is the engine to Chelsea FC’s attack and is their shield in front of defense.

ESPN chose Matic because “It’s not always easy to see what the Serbian does when he’s playing. It becomes obvious only when he isn’t. He’s an impregnable defensive shield and can start an attack, too”. Not everything he does shows up on the scoresheet but he always has an impact on the match by doing the little things and the big things to help the Blues.
