Report: Tomas Kalas To Leave FC Koln And Join QPR

It is safe to say that Chelsea FC youngster Tomas Kalas’s loan to Bundesliga side FC Koln has not gone according to plan. The Czech Republic international has not made any appearances for the club and has only made the bench seven times since arriving in August. Now reports claim that when the transfer window opens in January, his loan to FC Koln will be cut short and he will instead be loaned out to Premier League side Queens Park Rangers.

Kalas is represented by Viktor Kolar, who is also Petr Cech’s agent, and he spoke about potential destinations for Kalas to TalkSport.com. Kolar said, “We have been negotiating the situation surrounding Tomas Kalas and there are a number of options from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.”

When pressed to see if any of the clubs interested was in the Premier League, Kolar said “one of them indeed is Queens Park Rangers. We want Tomas to play regularly and would like to have his future sorted out before the start of the transfer window, so that the matter is concluded to the satisfaction of all parties concerned.”

The goal indeed is to have Tomas Kalas play regular first team football and he certainly was not getting anywhere near that in Germany. At this point the loan destination or quality of the league is not even that important, what is important is that he will be given a chance to play even somewhat regularly.

At QPR, Kalas will not be facing very stiff competition for a place in the starting 11. He would be competing with the ancient Rio Ferdinand and the not so reliable Steven Caulker. In fact, QPR have the worst defense in the Premier League and have given up the most goals so far. If Kalas can not at least become a somewhat regular player in the backline then perhaps he just is not cut out for Premier League football.

Obviously there are other extenuating factors that will go in to whether or not he can play for QPR but it seems to be a straightforward situation. He is a talented young footballer and defender and would be going to a club that features the worst defense in the league. QPR will be looking to hunker down and tighten up the ship in order to avoid relegation and if Kalas can help them achieve that goal then he should make the move there and get some experience in the English top-flight.
