Chelsea FC Receive Rude Awakening From Tottenham
Chelsea FC were humiliated at White Hart Lane by Tottenham Hotspur and received a rude awakening that may set the Blues back on course for the season. Things were looking peachy as the Blues had won three out of four matches in the Premier League and were facing a trip to what was once called “Three Point Lane” to kick off the new year. They faced a stern test against Southampton just days before and had already trampled Tottenham 3-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season. That match however was much closer than the scoreline indicated.

This time around, the Blues were torched and ran ragged by a young and dynamic Tottenham side that looked fragile as ever at the back but dangerous and lethal in attack. Harry Kane ran circles around Gary Cahill and Nacer Chadli should have scored a brace but was unlucky not to. They ended up scoring the most goals against a Jose Mourinho-led Chelsea side and scored an absurd three goals in the last 15-20 minutes of the first half. It was a humiliation of the highest order as Spurs scored at will and made every member of the Blues save for Eden Hazard look off the pace.
Now the question is how will they bounce back from such a humiliating defeat. They are now exactly level with Manchester City on points, goals scored, and goals scored against. Chelsea are currently sitting top of the table based solely on alphabetical order and they now have the chance to start fresh. They can leave behind all the achievements of the last few months, the invincibles talk, the quadruple nonsense, and hopefully this defeat to Tottenham as well. They have a chance to start new and the January window will give Mourinho a chance to shed some dead weight.

Perhaps he will finally begin to truly rotate the squad and cut loose some of the dead weight in the squad such as Mohamed Salah and give some of the youngsters a chance. We may even truly see the meritocracy that Mourinho is so famous for and some of the struggling players like Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill may be dropped. There may also be some new recruits making their way to Stamford Bridge to help bolster the squad and shift the momentum back in a positive direction.
Whatever the case may be and whatever happens in the next few weeks will determine the course of the season for the Blues. Despite all the talk of the sky falling and the gloom and doom of this loss to Tottenham, the Blues are still technically top of the table, they are still in the FA Cup and the League Cup, and they are in the knockout round of the Champions League. There is so much to be positive about when it comes to where Chelsea FC currently are in all competitions this season and one loss to a solid Premier League side is no reason to call it quits and give up on the season.
