Tomas Kalas In Desparate Need Of Career Revival
Earlier reports this week suggested that young Chelsea FC centerback Tomas Kalas could be joining QPR on loan but new developments say he will end up at Middlesbrough instead. Kalas has been on loan at Bundesliga side FC Koln this season but has not even made a single appearance since joining in August. There are rumors that his loan spell there will come to an end during the January transfer window and he will be sent to a club in England.

The initial rumor was that he would head to London and play for Harry Redknapp and Queens Park Rangers. The situation there seems ideal as QPR currently feature the worst defense in the Premier League and would certainly see Tomas Kalas as a possible upgrade at the centerback position. He would have to beat out Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker, both getting up there in age and not quite the players they used to be. That applies especially to Rio Ferdinand who has not been the same player over the last 2-3 years that he was at his peak for Manchester United.
Unfortunately the idea of getting Premier League experience has been scrapped and the suggestions are that Kalas will join Championship side Middlesbrough instead. That works out quite well as Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has worked with Jose Mourinho before and seems to have the best interests of Chelsea’s prospects at heart. Boro currently has Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo on loan so it is not asking much to have them take on one more talented youngster. The loan to Boro would be mutually beneficial as it gives Karanka a versatile young player who is comfortable at both centerback and fullback, and Kalas gets some much needed gametime under his belt.

When Kalas was on loan at Vitesse Arnhem he was beginning to come in to his own and after a tremendous debut against Liverpool last season he seemed set for big things. There were jokes all around the internet that Kalas had Luis Suarez in his back pocket all match long and he truly showed how good he can be. Kalas was then loaned to Koln early on in the summer and the move was lauded as the logical next step in his career progression. Instead his career has stalled in Germany and it is in desperate need of a revival. If a move to a Championship side is what is necessary to kick start the process then Chelsea FC should do everything in their power to make it happen.
