Chelsea FC advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Watford FC on Sunday. The Blues have been drawn against either Millwall or Bradford City in the next round but they must wait until January 14th to find out exactly who they will play. Millwall and Bradford drew 3-3 in a riveting affair and they will face off in a replay in a little over a week’s time.

Chelsea FC will play their match against Bradford/Millwall on the weekend of January 24th and it will be the second of three cup matches in a row. The FA Cup match sits right between two Capital One Cup matches, the semifinal legs against Liverpool. Many fans of Chelsea are hoping for a match up with Millwall so they can see the Blues beat up on some old foes. The Lions of Millwall are known for their hooligan element and their “firm” and they are a generally disliked club around London and the rest of the country.

Some of the less emotional Chelsea fans are hoping for an easier matchup with Bradford City rather than Millwall. The matchup with Millwall will likely be a tough and emotional affair as both sets of supporters will be backing their club a bit more fiercely than usual. It would turn a relatively routine match between a Premier League giant and a Championship struggler in to a feisty local derby during a busy late January period for the club.

There is also the argument that playing against Millwall would get the Blues back on television where they belong. The match against Watford was not televised in favor of other more “high-profile” matches such as Manchester United against Yeovil Town and Manchester City against Sheffield Wednesday. The match featuring City was the more palatable of the two and much more exciting than a dull affair where Chelsea battered Watford but seeing the Blues advance is more important than seeing them on television. Either way Chelsea were lucky to be drawn against two sides that should be straightforward wins for them but there is always the risk of an upset in these cup matches.
