Life must be hard as Chelsea FC‘s third striker. Loic Remy has to sit on the bench week in and week out and watch Diego Costa and Didier Drogba score goals with regularity and hope that he will get his chance. Remy did against Watford in the FA Cup on the weekend and as he has done all season long, he took his chance well. Remy scored his fourth goal of the season against Watford and it was his second in just four starts so far. He also did this while playing out of position on the left wing rather than as a lone striker.

The French international feels like he is doing everything it takes in order to get in to Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven. Remy spoke to London24.com about his play and said, “If I score goals like I’m doing it means I’m ready. Obviously there is only room for 11 players on the pitch, we can’t play more than 11, but every time the manager wants to use me, I give my best and try to help the team as much as possible.”
He continued and spoke about his readiness and his desire for more opportunities to play regularly. “Every player has to be ready. Every time we have an opportunity to play, like some of us did against Watford, we have to show the manager that he can count on us. Individually we have to be ready, to be fit because you never know what is going to happen”, said the Frenchman.
Despite getting his chance against Watford and scoring regularly, Loic Remy is still not the first striker off the bench when the Blues are chasing a goal. Against Tottenham Hotspur in particular he was left on the bench in favor of Mohamed Salah and Ramires. Remy was still positive after that humbling defeat and said “the mood is really positive. We are still focused on all the targets”.
He continued and said “every team is going to be in trouble at some time and I hope ours is behind us now with the last two games. There is no problem inside (the camp), the players are still happy at training. We have shown everyone that we can react after two bad results. We are still in first and top of the League. We have qualified for the next round of the FA Cup, so there is no point to be negative or anything like that. It’s going to be hard, but we want to win every competition. That’s where the mentality and quality of the squad can make the difference.”

Remy’s mentality will be tested as he will look to fight his way in to the lineup. His performance against Watford was not the best but he was able to make an impact with his goal and effectively kill off the game. Some believe that he could be Chelsea’s cheap answer to their left wing woes as he is more than capable of playing there instead of Willian or Andre Schurrle. His goalscoring rate may suffer but he could be an excellent solution to a pressing problem the Blues are facing and could be his ticket in to the starting eleven.
