Reports: Islam Feruz To Join Cardiff City On Loan
Chelsea FC youngster Islam Feruz has been on loan with Greek club OFI Crete since September but it appears he has changed his mind about continuing on with the Cypriot side. Feruz is reportedly training with Cardiff City and is looking to join the Championship side on loan for the remainder of the 2014/15 season.

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade, as quoted by Sky Sports, spoke to Wales Online about Islam Feruz’s possible move to the Welsh club. Slade said, “We were told Islam wasn’t coming down, but he’s here and training with us. He has apparently changed representatives, but that’s all sorted now and Islam was keen to join us this week”. Nothing has been made official by either club in the form of an announcement but if Feruz is training with the club and the manager is speaking about the move openly then it is looking increasingly likely.
Feruz was little used at OFI Crete, who are managed by Italy and AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso, and it makes sense that he would be unhappy with spending the rest of the season there. He has been the subject of some very strange loan talk after he was recently linked in the summer with a loan move to a second division Russian side Krylia Sovetov. You would be forgiven for not knowing who or where that club is because not many people outside of Russia probably have. Even the loan to OFI Crete was very strange as it was once again a club that few people had ever heard of.
This move to Cardiff City, a club we have all heard of that plays in a league we all know very well, makes much more sense. According to Slade, Feruz changed agents so that may be why he was being sent on loan to these exotic locales rather than a Championship or League One side like most Chelsea FC youngsters with British passports. His new representation appears set on making him relevant once again by sealing this move to Cardiff which will hopefully be announced in the next few days.

Cardiff still features some decent strikers like Kenwyne Jones and Federico Macheda but surely they will look to give Feruz a look if they are so keen to bring him on board. Listed at 5’4″ the young Scotland international is an intriguing prospect who lit up the goalscoring charts for the Chelsea FC academy. The Blues will be curious to see if he can replicate some of that goalscoring form in a physical league like the Championship and hopefully he gets the chance to prove himself with Cardiff.
Perhaps he can play in support of the big and physical Jones or even be deployed on the wing to use some of his excellent pace. Even if he does not get much playing time at least Islam Feruz has been brought from the footballing wilderness that is Cyprus and back in to relevance once again.
