Lewis Baker Joins Sheffield Wednesday On Loan
Lewis Baker, highly rated Chelsea FC youngster, has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the remainder of the 2014/15 season. The move was confirmed today by the Chelsea FC official website and is set to last until the end of the season on May 2nd. It is effective immediately and the youngster should be in contention to play for Sheffield Wednesday as early as this coming Saturday.

This was not quite what we expected of Lewis Baker this season as Jose Mourinho promised to work some youth in to his lineup. Before the season Mourinho used Baker as one of his examples of English youngsters in the Academy setup that he thought had bright futures for the national team. He even went as far as to personally guarantee that they would play for the Three Lions and that he could be blamed if they did not.
"Lewis Baker has today joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on loan until May 2. The 19-year-old, who signed a new five-year contract in August, will link up with Stuart Gray’s side ahead of their fixture with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.Source: ChelseaFC.com"
Mourinho has given cameo debuts to Dom Solanke and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in meaningless matches but has yet to make use of the talented midfielder he has in Baker. The youngster is just 19 years old however and some believe that he is mature and talented enough to become the next captain of the Blues. Obviously that is a long way away from becoming a reality and he has a great deal of development to do but a run in the Chelsea side could have done wonders for him.
Instead what Lewis Baker has been given is a chance to play for a Championship side that is currently sitting mid-table and likely in need of an injection from some young talent. As we all know the loan could end up being a disaster and he could wind up being relegated to the bench anyway.

However we hope that Stuart Gray and the Sheffield Wednesday staff will know better and will actually make use of a very talented young player. If everything works out according to plan then perhaps Lewis Baker can earn himself a loan to Premier League club next season. Or if things go really really well then he could find himself being used as a squad player in a Chelsea FC shirt rather than in some other Premier League team’s kit.
