Sergio Ramos Prefers Premier League, Could He Come To Chelsea FC?

Real Madrid centerback Sergio Ramos has never been shy with this opinions or with his tackles. The often booked defender spoke recently about the standard of refereeing in La Liga and he appears to be disillusioned with it. Ramos told AS that he prefers the English Premier League’s style of play and refereeing over La Liga and Spain, although Jose Mourinho may have a thing or two to say about that. Could this be an indicator that Ramos is looking for a move away from Madrid, or just an upset player lashing out in the media?

Ramos spoke after he was given a penalty in Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey first leg clash with Atletico Madrid and it was the correct decision. He thought otherwise and, as quoted in the Independent, said, “I’m not going to talk about controversial issues and certainly not that incident. The only thing I will say is that, with every passing day, I prefer the English Premier League”. So he will not talk about the controversy of the decision but he will stir up some of his own by bringing up the Premier League. Ok then.
He clarified and said, “what am I talking about? Obviously not about the ball-boys… the style of play, refereeing. People enjoy watching that competition. When one loses, it’s easy to focus on the refereeing decisions”. It is indeed easy to focus on the negatives when you lose, especially when the first goal you concede is through a penalty, even if it is well-deserved. So what does this mean for the English clubs vying for the World Cup winner’s signature? Is he really ready to leave his native country and one of the biggest clubs in the world for cold and rainy England?
The short answer is maybe. The situation would have to be ideal for Sergio Ramos to move because he is in the middle of a pretty good one right now. He is one of the leaders of a team that is constantly in the hunt for domestic and European trophies and is well compensated for that. Unless he is simply forced out of the lineup by youngster Raphael Varane, then Ramos will be looking for a similar situation right now in England.
The only clubs that could offer Ramos the sort compensation he expects are Manchester City, Manchester United, and of course Chelsea FC. As for the stability, only Chelsea can truly make that claim. United can not even guarantee him a top four finish but they can guarantee that he will be part of a defensive back three. City are dealing with their own issues when it comes to Financial Fair Play but he may be swayed by the prospect of a big time payday before he turns 30.

Chelsea on the other hand may not be able to offer the same wages as Manchester City, but they can offer him stability in management and the opportunity to win multiple trophies. He is certainly better than Gary Cahill right now and were he to join in the summer he would slot in right alongside John Terry. Ramos is also capable of playing fullback and could find himself there once again if he prefers. Mourinho is also familiar with him and though they have clashed in the past they could bury the hatchet the way the manager has with Cesc Fabregas.
At 28 years old,Ramos is in the prime of his career and may be looking for another challenge as he has won it all in Madrid. The likelihood of him leaving the Spanish capital is slim but if he were to make the move to England, then Chelsea would be the most logical destination.
