Thorgan Hazard Quells Borussia Monchengladbach Rumors

Chelsea FC midfielder Thorgan Hazard is currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and there have been rumblings that he and the club have been angling to make things permanent. In recent weeks the club sporting director Max Eberl has said that they hope to sign Thorgan on a permanent deal because he has settled so well at the club. This week Thorgan Hazard has come out to say that he is not interested in joining Borussia Monchengladbach on a permanent deal despite the good feelings he has there.

Thorgan, as quoted in the Evening Standard, spoke of his happiness at Gladbach and that negotiations are underway. He said, “Negotiations are under way. I feel good at Gladbach and I need stability, which is not always the case in loan agreements. I have no desire to move to a new team and a new country”. We presume that the negotiations he is referring to are to extend the loan deal for another season. It is rare for a player to have such success in a loan deal and it is understandable that both parties would seek to extend it.

That quote alone does not close the door on him making a permanent move to Gladbach but this next bit does. Thorgan said, “I still dream of playing with Eden in the same team. My father is always in touch with Mourinho and I heard that he appreciates me”. So unless Eden Hazard makes one of the more shocking moves in recent footballing history and moves to Gladbach, Thorgan will have to play with him in a Chelsea FC shirt. Perhaps the club can make his dream come true by bringing him along to the preseason tour this summer. The fact Jose Mourinho also maintains communication with the Hazard is a positive sign that he values the Belgian youngster.

Gladbach and the Bundesliga are currently on their winter break but before it Thorgan Hazard had started two of their last three matches and notched two assists. Overall he has made nine starts and 13 substitute appearances with two goals and a very solid six assists to go along with them.

The club is beginning to trust the youngster more and more after he was relegated to only substitute appearances for the first two months of his time there. He is slowly becoming a very important player for Gladbach and it is understandable why they would want to bring him in on a permanent basis.

With Chelsea and Thorgan making it clear that he does not want to sign there long term, could that negatively impact his place in the team? Not if manager Lucien Favre and the Gladbach staff want to solidify their place in the European spots in the table. They currently sit in fourth place and in the last Champions League place, ahead of 5th and 6th placed Schalke 04 and FC Augsburg on goal difference alone.

Hazard has proven to be a vital player for them this season and he has the quality to help them maintain that top four finish. Ideally they would maintain that position, extend Thorgan Hazard’s loan for next year, and we can see him play in the Champions League next season.
