Jose Mourinho’s second homecoming is finally established. Chelsea FC are winners of the Capital One Cup Final after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2 goals to nil at the Wembley stadium. John Terry scored at the end of the first half and Costa finished the game with a clinical second. This victory establishes the fact that, Mourinho has moulded a young group of talented players into champions and it just maybe the start of a trophy laden campaign which we all expect from the Blues.

Chelsea came into this match well rested while Tottenham had a Europa leg in midweek, and thus carrying a bit of fatigue. Jose Mourinho picked the same starting line up with the ‘untouchables’ but with a twist in midfield. He placed Kurt Zouma in place of Nemanja Matic in the central midfield pairing him with Ramires with Fabregas playing in the number 10 role in place of Oscar.
Tottenham surprisingly took the game to Chelsea in the opening minutes. Chelsea started to look like a counter attacking side, as they soaked up the Tottenham pressure and hit them on the counter. But the counter attacks seemed to fail as Costa found himself isolated at times against the Tottenham defenders. Chelsea didn’t pass the ball fast enough to launch good attacks.
Tottenham came close to scoring when Christian Eriksen’s free kick hit the bar. At 43 mins, Chelsea opened the scoring when John Terry put the ball into the net from a set piece by Willian which dealt a psychological blow to Spurs at the end of half time.
The blow was evident in the second half, as Spurs couldn’t replicate the form which they showed in the first half. With the rain pouring in, Spurs fatigue due to a mid week Europa League fixture started to find its place in the players and that benefited Chelsea in a big way. Chelsea pulled clear of Spurs when Diego Costa took hold of the ball, pulled an injured Kyle Walker in and took a shot which ended up in the net thanks to the deflection of the foot of Walker. At least, Costa’s mini goal draught was over and Spurs lost that minimum steam which they had in them after this.

To the excitement of Chelsea fans, Didier Drogba was put on in place of Diego Costa for the ending minutes which raised fantasies among us to see another Drogba special at Wembley.
I expected Harry Kane to at least give the Chelsea defence a run for their money, but I guess we learnt our lesson from the last time. Kane wasn’t even given a sniff of the Chelsea goal. The only moment Kane took a shot at Cech, he had to see Terry’s tackle deflect the ball for a corner. Terry scored his 60th goal as Chelsea captain and defender and again re-establishes his importance to the club. He was not only a leader, but he scored the opening goal which set Chelsea on their way, and also put his body on the line in defence as has always done.
At the end, Jose established his homecoming at the Bridge with his beloved Capital One Cup. Now we Chelsea fans can dream again of a successful campaign with our much adored manager at the helm. It turned out to be pretty good day for Chelsea.
And yes, Manchester City lost to Liverpool 🙂
