Chelsea FC: Jose Mourinho Wants John Terry And Petr Cech To Stay

After Chelsea’s 5th league cup win, there has been news of uncertainty regarding the contracts of the Chelsea FC old guard, John Terry and Petr Cech. Terry himself has admitted to the fact that he is fighting for his place at Chelsea FC next season while Cech is unsure of his future at the club after becoming second fiddle to the young Thibaut Courtois.

Jose Mourinho is more positive of his captain’s position in the club, as he seems to be upbeat about the fact that Terry will be surely in his team come next season. Terry has been in superb form for Chelsea FC this season, as if his experience is winning the battle over his age, where he is able to put his body on line time and time again when called upon. Terry, along with Kurt Zouma/ Gary Cahill, has been rock solid in defense and has been popping up with important goals like the one in the Capital One Cup Final.

Terry’s contract will end on the 1st of July and he is unsure whether he will be in the lineup next season or not. Jose has made it clear that he will be getting an extension based upon his performances for the team but if the performances are not up to the mark, there are younger players who are fighting for his position. This situation ,as Terry admits, is making him fight for his position and play that much harder.

The captain admits that such a competitive culture has made him a better player and he thinks that he has a couple of years more and would like to go out with a bang, and wants to retire at Chelsea, a club where he started out and adores so very much. Jose wants his captain to stay, but it remains to be seen where Captain Terry’s future lies in the coming months.

“The manager [Mourinho] came in, sat me down and made it clear if I worked hard I’d get extra years and would play, but if not there are others players who are younger who can play and will fight for the place. So I am fighting for my future, for my family’s future, and I want to give it everything.”- John Terry

Petr Cech’s situation seems quite bleak when compared to that of Terry. With the coming of young blood in the Chelsea FC roster in the form of Thibaut Courtois, the veteran goalkeeper has seen his playing time cut massively short as a clear statement from the manager that Courtois is number one and the one for the future.

Although Cech was selected for the final at Wembley where he won his 12th major title, he is not at all happy with the situation where he is second fiddle to Courtois and could leave the club to seek first team football. Cech has 15 months left in his contract but he might be leaving before his contract ends to increase his playing time which Chelsea FC can’t provide him with as of this moment.

If he puts himself on the market, there would be a host of top football clubs who would be more than happy to acquire his services as he is still one of the best in the game. Chelsea FC are very much interested in persuading him to continue in the club where he spent a glorious 10 years winning almost every major honor.

Jose, when asked about Cech’s situation, replied in a neutral manner where he expresses his desire to hold on to the world class goalkeeper but also says that Cech is free make his own decision about his future and whatever he thinks will be the best for him. Jose ranks Cech as one of the best three goalkeepers in the world and believes that it would need a huge sum of money to lure him away from Stamford Bridge.

Suffice to say, that a transformation is already under way at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea FC under Mourinho are breaking away from old shackles and entering a new phase. A phase which will be lead by new and young blood such as Eden Hazard, Oscar and Thibaut Courtois and where there will be a glorious end of the careers of the old guard like John Terry, Didier Drogba and Cech. The future is bright and there are good times ahead for us Blues but lots of difficult decisions must soon be made.
