Chelsea FC are still top of the table in the Premier League following the capture of the Capital One Cup Sunday at Wembley. The Blues saw off North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the final 2-0, thanks to a John Terry goal and Diego Costa created own-goal. The Blues lifted their first trophy of Jose Mourinho’s 2nd era and the club’s first trophy overall since the 2013 season when Chelsea FC lifted the Europa League trophy in Amsterdam
The Blues lead at the top of the Premier League stayed at 5 points after Liverpool saw off Manchester City at Anfield, and so Chelsea FC remain control of the title race with a game in hand. Jose Mourinho’s side will be looking to keep up the pressure on City by dispatching West Ham in another London Derby. The Irons, under Big Sam Allerdyce, sit 9th in the table and are hoping to continue to push for a potential Europa league spot, but will have a lot to contest with in Chelsea, who dispatched West Ham 2-0 on Boxing Day.
Jose Mourinho has said the team are very happy following the capture of the clubs 5th League Cup, but “no more excited than normal”, and are focused on the Premier League title race.
We are just happy. Everybody likes to win competitions. I feel the players are very happy but a normal happiness, no more than that.” Jose Mourinho
. Chelsea’s new players will be happy to have won a trophy, especially as the newest players got to experience the thrill of playing in a cup final at Wembley. Ideally the confidence from that victory can lead to another Premier League victory against West Ham that will go a long way to strengthening Chelsea’s grip on the title race.
