Chelsea FC’s Season Is A Success With Or Without Champions League

Okay let’s light up the mood here my Chelsea FC brothers! I know yesterday’s loss has dampened the spirits of the players and the fans, but not all is lost. We already have a trophy and we are on course for the Premier League title. A domestic double under Jose Mourinho, it is just like old times and we should feel happy about the times in which we are in now.

Yes, we started the season in a spectacular fashion blowing teams away week in and week out. Talks of replicating the Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ began to arise, but honestly, any person who understands contemporary football would have understood that such a thing would be totally out of question. Talks of going a whole season unbeaten was a ploy by the media which Mourinho denied in each and every press conference.

Arsenal’s unbeaten season was an incredible achievement which may not be ever replicated by any other team, but the game has changed in the past ten years, teams have now gotten stronger, tactics have evolved and the number of teams challenging for each and every title is more that before. So a possibility of going an entire season unbeaten is out of the question.

Sorry to say but, any football fanatic be it even a Chelsea FC fan, who might have believed that we wouldn’t lose a single game must be delusional.  That answers the followers of other teams who have been mocking Chelsea and their dream of an ‘Invincible’ season.

Where PSG succeeded and we failed, is that PSG just wanted to win the game more.

But yes, a club of Chelsea FC’s stature, can and should dream of challenging and winning on all fronts. But due to the competitiveness of the game, it is one thing to dream and totally another thing to execute. We aspired for a quadruple this season, but we might end up with a double. In this cut throat competition, it isn’t a bad thing at all.

Mourinho is a manager who believes in defensive rigidity along with keeping a good shape in formation rather than free flowing football. Against Tottenham in the Capital One Cup final such a mentality worked wonders while the same mentality failed against PSG.

Also, it should be noted that, Chelsea’s formation and tactics weren’t at fault as the Blues had more shots all through the game. Where PSG succeeded and we failed, is that PSG just wanted to win the game more. We became complacent and took the foot off the pedal which led to two goals and that too from corners where Chelsea FC rarely concede.

So, there is no need to give up in the mentality which Mourinho inculcates within the team. Yes we had chances to finish off the game, but we didn’t and that cost us the game. There will be better days, and the better days are about to come this May. Let us not brood over the past but look forward to a long and sustained period of success with a brilliant young team and with our beloved manager Jose Mourinho.

And yes, a shout out to PSG. Brilliant play and an indomitable spirit. We will get you next time.
