Jose Mourinho: Chelsea FC Is Going to Win the League

In the build up to today’s game against Southampton, Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho was forthright in his prediction for the rest of the Premier League season. The Portuguese manager claimed Chelsea would be league champions.

According to NBC Sports, in response to Wednesday’s Champions League exit at the hands of Paris St. Germain Mourinho said, “The people who went out last Wednesday are the same who’ve been top of the league since day one. They are the same people who won the Capital One Cup and the same people who are going got win the Premier League.”

This changes the tune of last season’s campaign from the Chelsea boss. Last season his Chelsea FC side was the ‘little horse’ in the race for the club’s first Premier League crown since 2010-2011. With one trophy already in the cabinet, adding a second would make this season a great success for the Blues. It would be another domestic double, with the Capital One Cup and the Barclay’s Premier League Trophy on display in SW6 for another victory parade.

As much as last week’s Champions League exit still stings, the players must move on in order to focus on a talented Southampton side. Manchester City’s unexpected loss to Burnley, along with a game in hand, makes this Premier League race Chelsea’s to lose. Barring a historic collapse, the league season should see Chelsea lift the trophy at Stamford Bridge in May.

Mourinho went on to say, “If you want to speak about the Champions League you have to go to (Arsenal manager) Arsene Wenger or (Manchester City boss) Manuel Pellegrini.” With a career full of quotes such as these, it is obvious that Jose Mourinho feels there is no room for friendship on the quest for trophies. The Special One tends to deflect criticism as far away from his players as possible. A League Cup and Barclay’s Premier League trophy would be a fantastic result to Mourinho’s second season back in command at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea FC have tasted European glory once before, and will be back again next year with a domestic league trophy in hand. Until then, there is still work to be done, and it begins today against Southampton.
