Chelsea FC: My Top 5 Most Memorable Moments
3. An Andres Iniesta strike and a certain Tom Henning Ovrebo breaks Blue hearts: Chelsea FC 1-1 Barcelona (2008-09)
I think this day will remain as one of the most painful when remembered by us Chelsea fans. Chelsea gave themselves a brilliant chance of making the finals after they drew at Nou Camp. The Blues started brilliantly at Stamford Bridge when a Micheal Essien wonderstike gave the home team an early lead.
But the story unfolded as the referee, Tom Henning Ovrebo denied ChelseaFC a number of chances to go ahead in the tie by not giving clear cut fouls and penalties including a blatant handball by Gerard Pique in the box.
And as football surprises us from time to time, Andres Iniesta scored a scorcher in added time to send Barcelona through to the finals of the Champions League. After the match the anguish and anger of the players and fans alike was symbolized by Drogba’s rant at the referee, to which he was brandished a post match red card. One of those moments only a true Blue fan can understand and feel to this day.
