Chelsea FC overcame two minutes of chaos and madness against Hull City to keep their sizable lead at the top of the Premier League table. After the weekend’s matches, Chelsea are six points clear of Manchester City and they still have a game in hand. Jose Mourinho spoke about the lead and said that the Blues have a “significant” advantage over their rivals.

While the lead is significant, Mourinho did address the fact that the title race is from decided. He said, “We are in front, the advantage is not half a body, the advantage is significant, but there is still a long way to go. I would enjoy it much more if we had 20 points more, but normal is a good situation for us”.
Well we would all enjoy being 20 or so points clear at the top the way Juventus is in Serie A but six points with a game in hand will have to do. Despite the relatively small gap, Chelsea FC is in excellent position and Mourinho acknowledged that fact as well.
“In this nine years at Chelsea we were never at the end of March with six points more than the second-placed team so we have a good situation in our hands and the way we worked last week, and the way we work this week, I think the players are very confident,” said the manager. He continued, “In this moment, our situation gives us space to work, space to improve. I repeat not an accumulation of fatigue. If things go in the direction I expect and the players expect, we can finish the season in a very strong way”.

The strongest way to finish the season would be to win the remainder of the games, just nine more to go, and see City drop a few along the way. City’s maximum possible point total as of now is 85 while the Blues can top out at 94. With some big dates against Arsenal and Manchester United remaining it is unlikely that they will reach 94 but City has their own difficult fixtures to look forward to.
Jose Mourinho knows exactly what it takes to win league titles as he has done so in every country he has managed in. He knows that it takes the right combination of luck, form, and sustained excellence to win the title and Chelsea FC are doing just enough to stay ahead of the pack right now. If the lead was any closer things would definitely not be quite as rosy around Stamford Bridge but luckily the Blues have some room to breathe.
