Petr Cech To Leave Chelsea FC This Summer

After a decade in goal for Chelsea FC, club legend Petr Cech is ready to leave Southwest London.  Cech will consider all of his options this upcoming transfer window in search of playing time. Cech has made just four Premier League starts in what is sure to be a title-winning campaign. The Czech international also started down the stretch of the Capital One Cup, including the final at Wembley against North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. A domestic double would be quite the feather in the cap for ‘Big Pete.’

According to Fox Sports, while on international duty, Cech said, “I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo. But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this.” The most decorated keeper in Chelsea history has been a consummate professional ever since his move to London in 2004, continuing into this difficult season for him as he struggles to move from the bench. There has been no outcry from Cech in the media or disturbances in the dressing room as a result of his benching this season, which speaks to the respect he has for this club.

His statistics have not wavered, even with a lack of playing time. With four Premier League starts, and a total of five total appearances, Cech has managed to keep four clean sheets, according to ESPN FC. It’s not unusual for goalkeepers to prolong their careers to an older age than the typical outfield player. Manchester United and Netherlands legend, Edwin van der Sar played into his 40s. Cech has proven he is still an elite goalie. He could play in any league across the world and is still a big game player.

I will forever remember Petr Cech for his heroic saves in the 2012 Champions League final in Munich. Not only did he keep Chelsea in the game, but he made a crucial save on an Arjen Robben penalty, as well as two saves in the penalty shootout to give the Blues their most important victory in their history.

Some of the biggest clubs in the world will be in the market for a new keeper this summer transfer window. These clubs may include Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Roma, among others. As tempting as it will be for Jose Mourinho to maintain the best goalkeeping tandem in European football, the club owes Cech the opportunity to help him find a new first team starting job elsewhere in Europe. In doing so, the club can bring in the funds necessary to fuel Mourinho’s transfer war chest.
