Chelsea FC: Loic Remy Deserves More Says Jose Mourinho

Loic Remy came off the bench to score a vital winner against Hull City and Jose Mourinho says the forward deserves more. It seems as if any time Loic Remy is called up to action he scores an important goal for the Blues. He may not be able to do so when he makes short cameo appearances at the end of matches, but when he is given to adapt to the game he usually responds well.

More from The Pride of London

When he was brought on for Diego Costa against Hull, it took him just two minutes to make his impact felt on the match. Costa limped off in the 75th with yet another hamstring injury and Remy turned Willian’s cross under and past Allan McGregor to restore Chelsea FC’s lead and bring sanity back to the KC Stadium.

It was Remy’s first touch of the game and it was his fourth goal in 17 appearances in the Premier League. He has 6 goals in all competitions and two winners if you include the opener in a 6-0 drubbing of NK Maribor in the Champions League. After the match, Jose Mourinho praised the French forward and said that he “deserves more”.

Mourinho said, as quoted by the Evening Standard, “Probably he deserves more than what I give him. Sometimes, not many times, a coach can feel he owes something to a player. With Remy that is the case, I think I owe him something. Every time he plays he gives us a lot. I’m so happy for him because he deserves it. He never complains”.

He has played second fiddle to Diego Costa but he has been nearly as prolific in a Chelsea FC shirt. It is hard to argue against starting a player that has 20 Premier League goals but there have been matches where Costa has looked ragged and fatigued.

The second match against PSG comes to mind as Costa looked more interested in starting a brawl than scoring. Could Remy have made a bigger impact with his pace than Costa? Well it appears that he will get another chance to prove his worth after Costa suffered another hamstring injury and looks set to miss the match against Stoke City.

It would have been nice to have the big and strong Costa against the brutes at Stoke but Remy could prove too fast for them to contain. He has delivered nearly every time he has been called upon and has been professional about his lack of time. Perhaps he realizes that winning trophies at Chelsea FC is more important than being the big fish in a small pond in another club.

The Blues have the luxury of having two excellent strikers at their disposal, three if you include the increasingly anonymous Didier Drogba, and Remy will hopefully receive the rewards for his efforts in the form of a Premier League winners’ medal.
