Chelsea FC is in an interesting position right now. They have a six point lead in the Premier League and even have a game in hand over their closest rival Manchester City. One would assume that this sort of position is stress free as the Blues can simply coast to the title if they keep doing what they have been doing what they have been doing all season long.

Unfortunately, things are not that simple when it comes to football at its highest level. Human emotions and pressure can come in to play and some players are better equipped to handle this than others. Last season is a prime example of this as Liverpool looked set to waltz their way to the Premier League title. Instead they slipped against Chelsea FC and crumbled under pressure against Crystal Palace as they gave up a three goal lead.
Manchester City on the other hand were playing with no pressure as they tried to make up the difference between them and Liverpool and eventually pipped them to the title. City had nothing to lose as they were considered out of the title race but strange things happen in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho has been here before. He has won league titles in Portugal, England, Spain, and Italy so he knows a thing or two about a title run. According to Diego Costa, he told his players that the key to winning the Premier League will be to stay calm. By staying calm and collected, the Blues can fight off the nerves and deal with the pressure but of course that is easier said than done.
Costa told the Mirror, “Our manager has won different leagues and knows how to manage a situation like this. Like the great manager he is, he has told us what we need to do now, which is just to stay calm. He’s right because everything depends on us now. We know that the Premier League is complicated. It’s not easy so we know we have to improve. We all need to dig in and give something extra because we have this title in our hands and we can’t let it slip away.”

The Blues have an excellent chance to win the Premier League with a few games left to play. Manchester City have looked far from perfect and they will surely stumble along the way. Chelsea FC has some difficult fixtures coming up as well so they may stumble but they need to keep that self-belief instilled in them by Mourinho. They still have to face Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the final months of the season and those clubs will be desperately fighting for a top four finish.
There are no easy fixtures in the Premier League but Chelsea FC will need to maintain their momentum as things wind down. A win this weekend against Stoke City will be the perfect jumping off point in the stretch run after a long international break.
