Chelsea FC Is ‘My Dream Club’ – Thorgan Hazard

Thorgan Hazard has yet to make an appearance for Chelsea FC despite officially spending two years as a member of the club. His first two seasons as a Chelsea player he spent at Belgian side Zulte Wargerem and was named the Belgian Player of the Year. At some point he was even named captain of the side which is remarkable for a loanee player and someone so young.

After a few seasons on loan including the first few months of this season, the younger Hazard brother was sold to Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee believed to be about €8 million, almost 16 times as much as the Blues paid for him in 2012.

Chelsea, being the smartly run club it is, inserted a buyback clause in to the youngster’s transfer and Thorgan is holding out hope that they use it one day. Despite settling well at Gladbach, the youngster says that his dream is to play with his brother Eden and that Chelsea remains his “dream club”.

Thorgan, as quoted by ESPN FC, said “I am at the right club. I can develop here, have a coach [Lucien Favre] who trusts me, and I am close to my native Belgium. It remains my goal to play with my brother Eden at my dream club Chelsea one day, but for now I want to stay at Gladbach for a long time. [Eden] also knows that Gladbach are a great club for me.”

Eden tried to convince his brother to stay with Chelsea FC but it is unclear how much Thorgan had to do with the decision anyway. He has been excellent in the Bundesliga and is slowly proving to his critics and the football world that he is not just Eden’s younger brother. In 14 starts and 17 substitute appearances, the youngster has scored 3 goals and notched 3 assists. Not bad for a player who is in his first season with the team and is just 22 years old.

The decision to sell Thorgan must not have been an easy one but it is the right decision in the long run. As a loan player, Gladbach were not given much incentive to develop his talents even if they are prodigious. Now that he is a full time member of the squad they have a greater incentive to develop him and make him the best player if he can be. If he does not end up being good enough for Chelsea FC then the Blues will have made a great profit on a young player and Gladbach still get a very good player.

However if he does end up making the grade, then Chelsea will buy him back and get a player that is good enough for the first team without having to pay through the nose for him. Either way it is a positive for the two clubs and it is a positive for Thorgan because he will get more of a chance to play than he would as a loanee bouncing around to different clubs. Now the stage is set for him to impress and make his Chelsea dream come true.
