Chelsea FC loanee Mohamed Salah has been on fire with Fiorentina this season and the Serie A club want to keep him for at least one more season if not more. Fiorentina Manager Vincenzo Montella is not clear on the details of whether or not they can make the deal permanent but they seem set on keeping him for as long as possible.

Montella spoke to Football Italia about the Chelsea FC winger and said, “Salah deserves all the credit for this great impact on Serie A. I don’t know the details of how we can buy him permanently, but I do know there’s another year on loan and then we’ll see.”

The financial situation with many Serie A clubs, including the giants such as AC Milan and Inter Milan, is tenuous at best and Fiorentina is no different. Montella explained that finances will determine if they can keep the Egyptian long term but was certain that he would remain for at least one more season.

He said, “The club has to ultimately evaluate the financial issues, but the important thing is that he’s going to be here with us next year. I knew his quality, but admittedly I did not expect Salah to adapt so quickly to Serie A. He has scored important and decisive goals against big clubs.”

Salah has been on an absolute tear since joining the Viola in January. Not much was expected from the winger and many thought that he would struggle for a place in the team and that the loan would be another lost season for the Egyptian. Instead he has scored important goals for the club in the Europa League and the Copa Italia against teams such as Tottenham Hotspur and a double against Juventus in Turin.

His record of 7 goals and 2 assists in just 8 appearances for Fiorentina is extraordinary for a player who was on the fringes at Chelsea FC. To be fair he was never given the same chance to impress at Stamford Bridge as he has in Italy but he scored a goal in his first match and made an instant impact. Perhaps the style of play in Serie A is more suited to his game or it could be that being sent on loan lit a fire under him after being complacent at Chelsea as a squad player.

Whatever the reason for his recent success, Mohamed Salah has proven once again that he is a player capable of performing on a big stage against big teams. His performances in the Champions League and Europa League are why Chelsea bought him in the first place but he has earned the right to at least be considered for the first team.

The Blues are still looking for the offensive spark opposite Eden Hazard on the right wing and it appears they may have had one all along. Vincenzo Montella may be convinced that Salah will be with Fiorentina next year but if he keeps up this level of play the Blues may choose to bring him back to Stamford Bridge instead.
