According to the Express, “Valencia star, Andre Gomes has denied talks that he will join Chelsea FC at the end of the season.” The 21 year old midfielder spoke about the potential deal and said, “I’m not worried about what the future holds. I am convinced that I will stay in Valencia because I am very happy here. I just think about spending the next season in Spain. Chelsea? I do not know anything and also my agent is not aware of any opportunity.”

There seems to be several Premier League teams linked with the Gomes, Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United as one of them. However, the Spaniard has expressed his immediate interest to remain in Spain.

Andre Gomes may be an up and coming talent for Valencia, but by no means is he ready to play for the Blues. The Spaniard has put in a few good performances in Spain, but is far from ready. According to the Express, the deal would cost Chelsea FC around £36 million. That is too much money for a 21-year-old prospect who hasn’t proved his worth in the least.

This rumored deal comes at a time when Chelsea appear to be readying funds to buy one or two big name players this summer. Chelsea are in need of a midfielder or two, along with the potential signing of another centre back. Spending £36 million on a largely unproven, 21-year-old would be awful business.

It is also definitely not in line with Chelsea’s current transfer policy of selling players to buy new ones. In order for this deal to happen, Chelsea would have to sell the likes of Ramires, and even Oscar. If we part with those players this summer, I want to know we are getting more than an unproven youngster from Spain.

Chelsea should allow Manchester United to do their business, and not interfere with expensive moves for unproven talent. This summer might see us part with a few players. However, I believe that if we are to part with big names, we will receive big names in return. This rumor will hopefully remain as just a rumor. The Blues look to have a busy summer ahead of them, but this should not include the purchase of Andre Gomes.
