Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Manchester United, Darren from The United Pages reached out to get our view on the match and his favorite club. We decided to do the same and see how he felt about Chelsea FC and Manchester United’s title chances next season.
Tell us a bit about yourself, your site, any claims to fame etc?
Well I’m Darren and I set up theunitedpages.com only a couple of months ago. Before that I contributed to a very well established United site and featured on their podcasts with United legend Gordon Hill. I’ve been lucky enough to provide a United viewpoint for quite a few programmes on BBC5 live and also on Talk Sport and LBC.
With the league title almost wrapped up how do you view this season as a whole for Chelsea FC?
On Chelsea, I can’t help but feel the season has been a bit of a disappointment for you. Sounds odd probably I know with you about to win the league but I just feel that you should have achieved much more in Europe. You’ve been the only team in the league pretty much since October and with players like Courtois, Hazard, Fabregas and Costa could and should have done more I feel.

Which areas do you need to strengthen?
As for Manchester United we definitely need a ball playing centre half and someone with energy in centre midfield to compliment Ander Herrera. We need a penalty box centre forward as well, like a Ruud Van Nistelrooy sort but there aren’t many of those about that are available. There are a few areas we need to strengthen but players like Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young and now Juan Mata playing wide left have made us question whether its worth giving them more of a chance.

Have you seen any of Chelsea FC’s recent games, do you think we’ll be challenging yourselves properly next season?
I’ve seen a few of your games recently and it seems you are playing within yourselves a bit now. I know Costa is struggling with his injury and replacing him his difficult. Fabregas just seems to have lost his early season form too. Really like Hazard I think he’s a fantastic player. Under Mourinho you know that Chelsea will be set up very well and will be very hard to beat. You’ll definitely be in the mix again next season. Hopefully with us too!
What are your thoughts on Chelsea FC in general? Like/dislike the club or fans etc?
A lot of United fans are bemused by the sudden emergence of the Chelsea fan. Where were you all when it was Eddie Newton and Frank Sinclair for example but of course we’ve known that sort of thing too. We do like to mock you as being a club that has no history but there is a respect there too that the old Chelsea tradition was trying to play exciting football. We certainly respect Jose Mourinho and recent battles between the two clubs.
Well there you have it. Who said every conversation about football has to end in punches being thrown? Best of luck to United this weekend but we all know that our Blues will come out on top.
