Chelsea FC loanee Patrick Bamford has been an absolute sensation at Middlesbrough this season. To reflect the impressive nature of his performances for Boro, the Football League has nominated him for two awards. He has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year and the Football League’s Young Player of The Year award.

The other nominees for the Sky Bet Championship award are Daryl Murphy of Ipswich and Watford’s Troy Deeny. Murphy and Deney are the top scores of the division with 24 and 20 respectively and Bamford is 7th with 17 goals. The Young Player of the Year nominees are MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli and Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond.

The remarkable thing about his domination and his goal tally is that he was not a starter at the beginning of the season. Bamford made his first start for Middlesbrough in their 8th match of the season and of course he scored in that debut as well. Since making his debut for Middlesbrough Bamford has been on an absolute care.

Along with the 17 goals in the League he has also scored two other goals in the FA cup and the League Cup. He proved that he can score against the big boys with his goal against Manchester City and he looked every inch the part of a senior Championship striker. His performance against Liverpool in the League Cup was also tremendous as he came on in extra time, won a penalty, and converted it to take the match to penalties. Bamford also converted his penalty in the shoot out and showed maturity beyond his years.

He has helped lead Middlesbrough to the top of the Championship table and they are clear favorites to earn promotion to the Premier League. Many Chelsea fans are calling for him to be the third striker in Jose Mourinho’s squad but another year on loan at Middlesbrough might be more beneficial. He already has a good relationship with the fans at Boro and manager Aitor Karanka clearly sees how good he can be.

He would learn more as a first or second striker for Middlesbrough then he would simply training and playing once a month with chelsea. However the focus now is more on the present and the accomplishments Bamford has achieved. his future will be sorted out but for now let us recognize his achievements this season. Congratulations Patrick on the double nomination and we hope that you bring both awards home!
