After a series of injuries, Chelsea FC loanee Marco van Ginkel is finally finding his feet at AC Milan. In his second start for Chelsea FC in a League Cup match Marco tore his ACL and missed the remainder of the season. That season was shaping up to be a major one in his career as many believed that he was the heir apparent for Frank Lampard. Van Ginkel made his return late in the season but did not make any appearances despite Chelsea’s lack of depth in midfield.
Marco then returned to the squad after narrowly missing out on the Netherlands World Cup squad last summer and was sent out on loan because the club had too many non-homegrown players. He has suffered ankle injuries which have derailed his progress at Milan and have kept him off the field.
The Rossoneri showed faith in the youngster and kept him even after his injury riddled first half season. He has played for full matches in a row and was me lawns best player in their match with Sampdoria last week. This may just be his agent talking, but rumors are beginning to swirl that Milan want to bring him on full-time. His agent came out and said that Marco is keeping his options open.
Van Ginkel’s agent on keeping his options open but preferring Chelsea FC:
"“There is nothing excluded or eliminated. Milan could be an option, but it is early and we’re also waiting to see what will happen with a possible takeover [by foreign investors]. In addition, we have to see what Chelsea and Marco himself want to do. Marco’s goal remains Chelsea. The goal was and is Chelsea.”"
Marco is still just 22 years old and has yet to fully reach his potential. He could end up being one of those players that never really gets his career on track because of injuries, or he could end up being the excellent midfielder that Chelsea FC thought he was when they brought him on board in 2013.

The only way to find out for sure is to bring him back to Chelsea and have another good look at him. José Mourinho will surely give him this chance this this summer and if he earns a spot on the squad then we will see him in a Chelsea uniform next year. If Mourinho does not think he’s good enough then we will sell him for what will hopefully be a tidy profit to AC Milan or any other club interested.
