Eden Hazard Relishes Being Chelsea FC’s Talisman

Every club no matter how big or small has their talisman. The player that the team relies on more than anyone else and carries the rest of the team on his shoulders. Real Madrid’s is Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United’s is Wayne Rooney, Burnley’s is Danny Ings and the list goes on. Chelsea FC is blessed with a number of world class players but one player that continues to rise above the fray is Eden Hazard.

The little Belgian superstar has taken his game to the next level this season. Last year was a time of growth for him as he learned to do more for his team in his first season with a demanding manager like Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager forced Hazard outside of his comfort zone and it has done wonders for his game and has already made him a champion. He lifted his first trophy with Chelsea after the Blues dominated Tottenham in the League Cup Final and looks to be on his way to another.

That second trophy is, according to Eden Hazard, the reason why he came to Chelsea. He said very plainly, “I came to Chelsea to win this league. I know how difficult it is to win this league, because every team tries to play, every game it’s a battle for three points. When you win this league you can say to everybody ‘yes, I won the English league.’ It’s not easy.”

Hazard also expressed his joy in that role of being the talisman and match-winner for Chelsea and said, “Every game I try to do one good moment. This is my job. I like my job. I try to give pleasure to the fans when they come to the stadium. I did very well. It’s very difficult, but in one moment you need something special with a special player like me, or Oscar, Didier (Drogba), Willian.”

The win against Manchester United was also  big reason for celebration and Hazard said, “this is why we play football, to play this kind of game and to score against this kind of team.”

He has rescued Chelsea time and time again this season and he did so once again on Saturday. The Blues were without their top two strikers and were forced to play 37 year old Didier Drogba up top. Chelsea was not at full strength but managed to pull out the victory because of Eden Hazard’s heroics. Oscar played his part in the goal but it was Hazard who finished off the move the way he has so many times this season.

For years the Blues relied on Frank Lampard as their talisman. Lampard took the important penalties and was often the man to pop up at the right time and score vital goals but that mantle has definitely been passed down to the young Belgian. We are lucky to be watching such a talented player work for his magic and it seems that he feels just as lucky to be doing it for us.
