Eden Hazard, a Legend in the Making

Chelsea’s number 10 has added another award to his trophy cabinet in the PFA Premier League player of the year. Eden Hazard was named in the PFA Premier League team of the year before winning the individual award last night.

This only adds to his legend in the making status. In a few short years we will see a Hazard banner hanging from Stamford Bridge in the same way as “Super Frankie Lampard” and “Captain, Leader, Legend” for Frank Lampard and John Terry, respectively.

Hazard has become the most exciting player in the Premier League and other massive clubs across the continent have taken notice. Despite signing a multi-year deal with the Blues earlier this season, he is still the subject of transfer rumors. Paris St. Germain and Real Madrid seem to be forever linked with the winger, despite both the player and Chelsea denying any interest.

Hazard would like to stay in SW6 and bring the Champions League back to London while working towards the Ballon D’Or. “Messi, Ronaldo they are on another planet, but year why not?” he said to the Daily Mail when asked about winning a Ballon D’Or award. “If I train every day, if I take pleasure every day, why not? I can reach another level. I’m still young, but at 24 Messie had won two Ballon D’Or awards already. But I am still young and I can improve more” said Hazard.

It would be a nice change of pace not only to have a Ballon D’Or winner from the Premier League, but a Chelsea player nonetheless. Let’s not forget, he is only 24. Messis and Ronaldos don’t grow on trees, and the comparison to these two should be taken more as flattery than a hardline expectation.

Hazard will surely have many more trophies to his name when his career is all said and done, but I am certainly happy with his performance since his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2012.

He is the Premier League’s most fouled player, and also possesses a skill not seen in Messi and Ronaldo. He doesn’t complain.

When have you seen Eden Hazard fouled hard, and writhing in ‘pain’ looking for a cheap free kick? Even when he is fouled hard, he gets up as quick as possible and looks to play the advantage rather than stopping play for a free kick. The former Lille man is never a problem in the dressing room and truly is a team player.

Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona, and ‘fill in club name here’, can all look elsewhere for an attacking player. Hazard is here to stay. When asked about any plans to leave Stamford Bridge, the Belgian told Sky Sports he will not look to leave the Premier League title winners’ elect, “I play with big players and the most important this is I want to win trophies and with this club, it is possible.” Blues supporters can expect to see number 10 streaming up and down the flanks at the Bridge for years to come.
