Chelsea FC: Tomas Kalas Wants To Stay On Loan At Middlesbrough Next Season
Middlesbrough is on the cusp of promotion to the Premier league from the Sky Bet Championship. They currently sit third in the table behind Watford and AFC Bournemouth and they have an excellent chance at either gaining automatic promotion if they can catch the second place team, all of this made possible by a few Chelsea players. Chelsea FC loanee Tomas Kalas is open to staying at Middlesbrough next season where he hopes he will get his chance in the Premier League.
Kalas spoke to The Northern Echo at length about his time at Boro and even though he is no longer eligible to play for Boro for the rest of the season, he has asked to stay and train with the team. He said, “I have really enjoyed my time here I really want to come back. I’m glad I came here and I want to say thank-you to the coach and staff and players and to the fans also an hopefully I will be back next season.”
The Czech defender continued, “I’m still a player of Chelsea but everyone knows it is always difficult to get into the team there and when you don’t see a big chance to play first team games then it is better for a young player to be at a club where they can play and where they can improve. So yes, I want to be here. I know in football anything can happen but for me, I am part of this team and I want to come back and finish it off.”
Since joining Boro in January, the Chelsea FC loanee has started 16 matches and even managed to bag an assist against Wolverhampton two weeks ago. This is a far cry from how his season began at FC Koln where he did not play a single minute in the first half of the season. Players are of course happiest when they play regularly so it is obvious why Kalas is enjoying his time at Boro.
Boro is level on points with Bournemouth but have played a game more. They can still catch the Cherries and Kalas thinks that one way or another Boro will be in the Premier League next season. He said, “Yes, I think we are on the way to the Premier League. Hopefully we will get automatic promotion and won’t have to go to the play-offs. The next two games are really important and it is still not in our hands we may still need someone to drop a point and hopefully we win both our games and get promotion.”
If they do make it to the Premier League then it will be excellent news for both Tomas Kalas as he can perhaps become a regular for them in the top flight. It will also help to boost his value should Chelsea FC decide that his future lies somewhere other than Stamford Bridge. He has shown excellent flashes of ability including the match last season at Anfield so it seems a matter of time before he gets a chance at Chelsea. Perhaps if he can impress during the preseason then Jose Mourinho can bring him in to the senior squad.
