“we are what every team wants to be”
Jose Mourinho said those words in his post match interview after Chelsea FC took what should be the penultimate step in our Premier League title chase by winning 3-1 away at Leicester City.

Bold words in the face of a barrage of consistent sniping about “boring” Chelsea FC from rival clubs and the media you would think, but are they that controversial or could it be wise words once again from “The Special One”?
Every team in every sport throughout the world wants to be winners, they want to be the best in whatever competition they are in, from the hastily thrown together 5 a side team, to a hungover Sunday lunchtime pub team, right through to the elite national teams, they all want to win.
Chelsea FC have lost just 3 matches all season across all competitions, a total of 50 games. Chelsea FC have already won the Capital One Cup and have 1 hand on the Premier League trophy this season. Is that not what every team desires? Is that not what every competitor dreams of?
So maybe Jose Mourinho is right?
How is it even possible that this season long domination is not being lauded as the perfect example of how to be successful? Why aren’t the masses of the media queuing up to lavish praise on Chelsea FC, on Jose Mourinho and his small band of merry men who are responsible for these results?
The answer is quite simple, and Jose himself eloquently expressed his thoughts about it when he said:

The human natures of envy and jealousy very often prevent rivals especially, from praising the obvious! Even the supposedly unbiased opinions of match commentators and pundits are affected by it, especially in certain cases where Sky Sports pundits are involved!
Having said all this it would appear that those very same pundits are starting to praise Chelsea FC now that we have all but wrapped up the Premier League title for the season. This in itself does seem a tad strange considering just last week that while the title race was mathematically still open, they were actively orchestrating the boring, boring Chelsea FC agenda!

So maybe it’s the “boring” part of Chelsea FC that prevents rival fans from recognising (even through gritted teeth) that this year’s team has been totally dominant?
It depends upon your interpretation of the word “boring” and how good your memory is I suppose.
If some fan’s memories can’t stretch back to the “invincible” season when a gold Premier League trophy was won by Arsenal, allow me to state a few stats from that season.
Arsenal only won 26 of their 38 games played.
Chelsea FC have already won 24 of our 34 games so far.
Arsenal only scored 73 goals in their 38 games played.
Chelsea FC have already scored 68 goals in our 34 games so far.
Arsenal only won 12 of their 26 winning games by more than a single goal. (46%)
Chelsea FC have already won 14 of our 24 winning games by more than a single goal. (58%)
Dare I say the Invincibles were as “boring” as Chelsea FC and yet received widespread acclaim for their achievements?
This season has been one of total domination in what Gary Neville called a boring season because no-one has challenged Chelsea FC.
Since the turn of the year Chelsea FC have powered on, winning matches whilst our nearest rival Manchester City have slipped up even more spectacularly than Stevie G did last year for Liverpool! The league table on New Year’s Day showed us level with Manchester City at the top, with only alphabetical order keeping us at the summit.

Then Tottenham won their “Cup Final” against us and reminded Jose there was a title to win. Out went the “we’ll score one more than you” attitude and in came the “we’re going to win the League” attitude in its place.
Hard work, predictability and good old fashioned teamwork took the place of individual flashes of skill and breath catching moments as Chelsea FC started the title countdown in earnest and began to grind out “winners” results.
That is the difference between an exciting, yet unpredictable team and a winning team.
It would appear then, that after removing emotional loyalties EVERY team should want to be what we are, a team of winners, a team of Champions, with an unbreakable team spirit and led by a tactical genius in Jose Mourinho. When added to this mix the fact that we are a team owned by a rich and very passionate owner and with a world class youth system developing the future stars of our club I have to agree 100% with Jose when he said ……
