Will Chelsea FC Chase History Or Rest Players?

With three games left in the season, Chelsea FC has a chance to make history. If they win the following three games the Blues will finish the season with a point total of 92, giving them the second highest point total in Premier League history second only to the Chelsea FC title winning team into 2004-05

So the question we must ask now is will Jose Mourinho use his best players and his best lineup to become one of the great champions in EPL history? Or will he use this as an opportunity to rest his tired players like John Terry who has played every minute of the Premier League season? Mourinho could also use these three games to play youth and fringe players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dom Solanle, Nathan Ake, and Andreas Christensen.

One possible reason for opting for rest is that Chelsea’s players have looked quite fatigued in recent weeks. Ever since the turn of the New Year the Blues have not looked completely up to snuff but how much of that was to do with their heavy workload is the question.

Players like Oscar, Eden Hazard and several of the other internationals have not had a summer off in a few seasons because of international duties. Oscar in particular has not had a summer off since 2013 because of the Summer Olympics in London, the Confederations’ Cup, the World Cup and will now be called up to duty for the 2015 Copa America this summer. Oscar came on late in the second half on Sunday but it will be surprising to see him featured in the final three games.

This is also the perfect chance to give these youngsters a chance at some Premier League football. At least two out of the three final games will feature desperate teams trying to improve their place in the table but Chelsea FC will have literally nothing left to lose.

Liverpool will want to try and win their final three games to give them a chance at Champions League football and Sunderland on the final day may need a victory or draw to avoid relegation. The youngsters will be playing against grown men who will be fighting for either the financial gain of their club or the long-term future of playing in the top flight and not the Championship.

The Blues have already achieved history by becoming the first team to be top of the table for every single week of the season. They have nothing left to prove and they have clearly been one of the great champions in Premier League history. Jose Mourinho must look at these final three games as an opportunity to build on the future of the club. Giving important players a rest and young players a chance is far more important then chasing a place in history that has already been achieved.
