Chelsea FC: Europe Has To Be the Next Step For The Blues

Finally it is done and dusted. The Blues are Champions of England and that too well deserved and in an emphatic manner. As they say, judge Mourinho on his second season. The previous season, we were the little horse as rightly pointed out by Mourinho where he still needed to assess the squad and understand where it needs consolidation.

Come second season, all the loopholes are fixed and the Blues romped away with the title blowing teams away with their flair and pragmatism. It was about time the West London club returned to the pinnacle of the Premier league. They were close at times to clinching it, but somehow did not have the maturity and neither the grit to fight till the end and grasp the silver trophy.

With our ‘Happy and Special One’ at the helm, the Blues are again a force to be reckoned with.

Now the goal is achieved and domestically we have proved ourselves, and we are here to stay. But, now it is time that we do the same in Europe. Europe is a totally different game altogether. The best of the best teams compete to win the elite prize. The loss against Paris Saint Germain showed us that although we are leagues ahead of others at home, we still have work to do on the European front.

The new Chelsea team under Mourinho is young and they aren’t much experienced apart from some of the old guards like Terry and Drogba. They firstly needed the Premier league to feel what it is like to win something big as a team rather than individually. Now as they have experienced that feeling, they can now show the same passion and enthusiasm in the Champions league.

The teams in Europe are much more tactically astute, and they know what they need to do to stop the opposition from playing. Like in the match against PSG, Hazard was man marked so that he can’t influence the game and they ended up winning the tie. Teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern know the ins and outs of how to compete at the highest level.

The Chelsea team when compared to the above said clubs seems bereft of experience. But, what they have is a manager who has won the Holy Grail two times and is one of the master tacticians in world football.

They went out of the Champions League in the round of 16. These bunch of young kids now know what it is like to play with the big boys, they now know what it is like to lose. They now have the experience and most importantly, they are now used to winning, courtesy of the Premier League.

More from The Pride of London

We are ready to compete with the best of the best. I don’t know for sure, but I am pretty confident when I say that, Mourinho is dying to win the Champions League with his beloved Chelsea FC. I think (and Mourinho may also think), that this season the main target was the Premier League, because it has been a long time since Chelsea won or mounted a stiff challenge for the domestic crown.

Also, the young members of the squad needed to experience winning which can go a long way towards building a belief and motivation, that they can compete and win against the stalwarts.

The momentum is with Chelsea FC. They have a great squad and they have one of the best managers in contemporary football who loves the club. There can’t be a better time for Chelsea to mount a serious challenge in Europe.

If they win the Champions league, Mourinho will etch his name as one of the greatest managers in football history (although he already is), and this Chelsea team will go down in history as one of the peerless teams of all time.
