Chelsea FC: Cesar Azpilicueta Linked To Barcelona And Real Madrid

The silly season is beginning to take shape as Chelsea FC’s Cesar Azpilicueta is reportedly on his way to Barcelona or Real Madrid this summer. According to the Evening Standard, that fullback Dave has been linked with a move to either club as they look to reinforce their defense.

These rumors are a product of the fact that Dave has gone from a bit part player in his first season to being the best left back in the Premier League. He was brought in from Olympique Marseille for a fee believed to be around £8 million and Chelsea fans did not know what to make of the full back with the hard to pronounce last name.

They dubbed him Dave but soon enough his talent made them learn how to pronounce his name and never forget it. What makes that achievement from bit player to star even more remarkable is that he is naturally a right back but has been asked to play on the left by his manager and he has duly obliged.

He is capable of locking down a flank on defense but is also more than capable of helping out on attack from the wing. Perhaps that ability is highlighted more when he plays on the right because he’s able to send crosses in with his right foot but he is no slouch on the left side. Barcelona in particular are in need of a fresh player on that side of the pitch because of the impending departure of Dani Alves from the team.

Bringing in a very talented young player from the Spanish national team would be an excellent way to address a need for both teams. Luckily for Chelsea FC fans the man we call Dave is loyal and is a big fan of his manager José Mourinho.

He was asked about his place at Chelsea FC and his manager and he said,  “[Mourinho] asks a lot of the players. It’s a new challenge every day, you have to be ready to fight, but Mourinho made me grow. I have made a lot of progress with him. It’s the most important thing to learn with a man like him.”

He continued and said, “I do not think about anything other than staying at Chelsea. I do not think about Spain. I’m in the best team in England; I do not think to play elsewhere.”

We all know about the impact that Mourinho can have on players and it appears that Dave is the most recent Mourinho stalwart and loyalist. Chelsea FC is also not in the business of selling their best players in their prime so do not count on Dave moving anywhere this summer or any time in the near future.
