Chelsea FC Interested In Tottenham’s Danny Rose?

The transfer season has not even begun but the rumors are already coming out in droves. According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea FC and Manchester City are chasing Tottenham Hotspur left back Danny Rose.

Rose is a hot commodity for a few reasons the most obvious of which of course is that he is an English player. Besides his nationality, Rose has played well for Tottenham this season and has become their starting left back despite the club’s purchase of Ben Davies from Swansea City.

Rose has made 31 appearances amount of starts the season and has even contributed 3 goals and 4 assists. Manager Mauricio Pochettino showed faith in the 24-year old and he has paid it back by raising his game to the next level.

The former Leeds United defender is just beginning to find his feet at Tottenham and it is doubtful that he would like to move to another club unless he is guaranteed regular football. Even if the prospect of winning titles with Chelsea FC or Manchester City is tempting, he will likely be doing so in a much reduced role. His performances with Spurs the season have seen him grab the attention of England manager Roy Hodgson though he has yet to receive a senior call up.

The Blues do have some interesting options at fullback and will have some tough decisions to make as Branislav Ivanovic ages. On the other side of the pitch, Cesar Azpilicueta is the current left back but how much longer can he continue to play out of position?

Many Chelsea fans envision a future in which Ivanovic is moved to center back and Azpilicueta is moved out to right back where he belongs. Filipe Luis is also an option at left back but he is also 30 years old and is not the long-term answer. Chelsea FC have other options in players like Nathan Ake, Tomas Kalas, and Andreas Christensen who may very well be as good as Danny Rose in the long run.

The best thing that Rose has going for him at this point is his nationality and his credentials as a consistent starter at the Premier League level. Competition at any position is always the key to success so if the Blues believe that Danny Rose is a good option at the position then why not bring him in.

The primary issue that the Blues will have to address is his likely high price tag for his nationality and because of the fact that he is currently with a “direct rival”. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is also a notoriously tough negotiator so if Chelsea FC want to bring in Danny Rose then it will certainly not be cheap.
