Chelsea FC’s Charly Musonda Targeted By Monaco

Continuing the theme of young French-speaking Chelsea FC youngsters graduating from the academy to the loan system is Charly Musonda Jr.. Earlier this week we discussed the possibility of Jeremie Boga going out on loan to Olympique Marseille as the necessary next step in his development and the same applies to Musonda. Just like Boga, Musonda is also linked to a move to Ligue 1 but to AS Monaco.

Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure, which we were able to decipher thanks to Google Translate, has reported that AS Monaco want to bring Musonda on loan for next season. Much like Boga, Charly and also lifted his fair share of trophies at the youth level and has proven his ability when competing with his fellow teenagers.

He made his Chelsea Academy debut against both him and actually in 2013. Since that debut he has one the UEFA Youth League as well as the FA Youth Cup with the Chelsea under 21. He has also represented his country of Belgium at the U16, U18, and most recently at the U21 level.

Charly Jr. is the youngest son of former RSC Anderlecht and Zambia international Charly Musonda Sr.. Musonda Sr. played for Anderlecht for 10 years and made 48 appearances for Zambia but was plagued with injuries all throughout his career. All three of the Musonda brothers joined Chelsea FC in the summer of 2012 but Charly is the most intriguing prospect.

The club most recently offered him a professional contract and he is on the books until the 2018-19 season so they have a long term investment in his future development. The Blues already sold the eldest brother Lamisha back to a Belgian club and the middle brother Tika appears to have inherited his father’s unfortunate luck with injuries.

Much like the other Chelsea players who seem to have outgrown the Academy it is now time for Charly Musonda to go out on loan and experience life as a top-flight footballer. A move to Monaco would be ideal as he would get to experience a top-flight league and could also get a taste of the Champions League.

AS Monaco is third in the table with five points ahead of the fourth placed Marseille so it is all but assured that they will at least be in the Champions League playoffs. This could be an excellent loan and an excellent experience for young Charly if everything goes according to plan.
