Infusion of Youth

This has been one of the few areas where Mourinho has failed to deliver on his words.  Jose had said that he would work to include some players from Chelsea’s wonderful academy into the first team over the season but that unfortunately hasn’t been the case.

Only Dominic Solanke and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, two of the brightest prospects, have been given match minutes with the first team. Each have only been given sparing minutes when brought on and barely had the time to get over the nerves of playing for the club and their first touches before the whistle blew.

At this point including some youth from the academy is a must. The quality being produced at Cobham has been among the countries finest for the past few years with Chelsea winning the 2014 u21 Premier League, FA Youth Cups in 2014&2015, and the 2015 UEFA Youth League.

So what  better time to get the young players acclimated quicker to the Premier League level than giving them playing time in the last three matches? Playing as part of a Premiership winning squad in games that don’t matter too much would ease their transitions greatly.

I do believe Jose when he says this is a priority and next season his likely plans are for at least two youngsters to have a more prominent role in the squad. Roman Abramovich has been seen at Chelsea’s training ground observing the u21’s play and Mourinho was spotted at a recent Middlesbrough match to watch loanee/Championship player of the year Patrick Bamford.
