Chelsea FC Finally Confirm Nathan Signing
After what seemed like weeks of anticipation, Chelsea FC finally announced the signing of Brazilian youngster Nathan, full name Nathan Allan de Souza, from Atletico Paranaense. Reports of the move came out several weeks ago but it was not officially announced until May 14th.
The hold up is believed to have been caused by interest from Portuguese side FC Porto who may have momentarily turned the youngster’s head. Nathan had passed a medical from Chelsea FC a few weeks ago but for whatever reason he had not put pen to paper and signed an official contract.
The rumors claimed that FC Porto made a last-minute bid for the youngster but he has finally decided to sign with Chelsea. Of course that could all just be speculation and the only holdup could have been negotiations between Chelsea and the player or Atletico Paranaense.
So who is Nathan? Apparently he is a highly rated young attacking midfielder but little else is known about him by the casual football fan. So unless you regularly watch Brazilian football or are an avid Football Manager player then he is an unknown commodity.
Nathan has represented Brazil at the U17 and U20 levels and truly burst onto the scene in the U 17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. He was named to the tournament’s First XI after scoring five goals as Brazil won their group but lost to Mexico in penalties in the quarter finals.

He made his senior debut for Atletico in May 2014 and scored one goal in all competitions, making 11 appearances and three starts. He is most known for his ability as an attacking midfielder but he has also been used as a second striker at the club and international level. Nathan has yet to make his senior debut for Brazil but if he is able to impress next season for whatever club Chelsea FC send him on loan to then a call up may not be far behind.
Perhaps we may get a true glimpse of the player in Chelsea’s lenghty preseason tour that sees them travel to Australia, Asia, and the United States. Because of his low transfer fee, believed to be about 4m pounds, Nathan is almost guaranteed to be loaned to one of Chelsea’s European affiliates.
If all the rumors are to be believed then he could end up in the Netherlands, France, or even Turkey. Either way, this is good news for Chelsea fans as the club adds another promising young player to its already fantastic talent pool.
